masters design & research project

12 weeks | September 2020

project overview.

“Understanding the current implementation issues of inclusive design within a commercial environment.”

For my Final Major Project, I wanted to combine my expertise and interest in Interior Architecture and Design with my expertise in UX and UI Design. I proposed my initial research question and undertook a Contextual Review to identify existing implementation issues and propose a design solution to the problem.

project process.

I completed further research, developing research insights and a concept called “Making Sense”. I then began brainstorming and developing wireframes which led to the creation of BuildSense. I used a variety of UX tools such as personas, user journey maps, value proposition mapping and service blueprints to do this. I also created and developed the BuildSense branding which was implemented throughout the user interface. To demonstrate the proposed use, I also created an infomercial-style video.

Introducing BuildSense; an inclusivity review tool for design professionals. BuildSense allows architects, interior designers and their teams to learn how they can make their designs more inclusive for someone with a physical or cognitive disability by importing and reviewing their projects. The wayfinding tool also allows architects interior designers to create inclusive schemes for their projects. Using BuildSense, it is easy to share projects with your connections and access your projects on site using the mobile and tablet apps. Resources, including articles, workshops and precedents, are also provided to further educate industry professionals about inclusivity.
